French at Milford Junior School
In an increasingly multicultural society, we believe that the children's ability to speak another language is important. We believe that the teaching of another language fosters pupils' curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world we live in. At Milford, the French curriculum aims to provide children with tools to help them communicate with people from other French speaking countries around the world. We encourage children’s confidence by using a range of strategies to help them learn French such as learning songs and playing games. French topics build upon children's prior knowledge of the language. These provide children with opportunities to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills whilst also expanding their cultural awareness. Through the use of engaging and active lessons, pupils are taught new vocabulary alongside key conversation skills that they can then apply in a real-life context.
